On November 4, 5K and Family Fun runners and walkers, Kids’ Run runners, K9 heroes and supporters packed Main Street in Maumee. Among the masses were donor family and transplant recipient teams, living donors, friends and advocates.
The fourth annual Hero Hustle 5K Run/Walk, hosted by Life Connection of Ohio and Community Tissue Services, saw record numbers with 961 registered participants! Thankfully, Mother Nature was kind this year, and everyone enjoyed gathering to celebrate the gift of life!
Congratulations to our top three teams. The 74 members of Team Elena Yakumithis honored the 6-year-old ballerina and hippo lover who gave life through organ donation. The 73 members of Allison’s Angels celebrated now-teenage Allison’s liver transplant that she received when she was just 2 years old. And Team Hilton’s 56 members remembered devoted family man and Harley-loving Larry, who gave life through organ donation.
Thank you to the Hero Hustle 5K sponsors: 13abc, K-100, Dave’s Running, University of Toledo Health, Karnik on Black, Lions Eye Bank of West Central Ohio, Kaleb McLaughlin Memorial Fund, Denise Youngs Memorial Poker Run and Kish Ambulance. Thanks also to Shauna Gilsdorf for providing pre-race yoga.
