The Life Connection of Ohio Donor Family Support Group page on Facebook is a new way for our donor families to connect with each other. Request to join here!
The biennial Donate Life Transplant Games of America are an Olympic-style competition for recipients that showcase the success of transplantation and honor donor families whose loved ones gave the gift of life. Donor tributes, quilt pinning ceremonies, workshops and more are geared toward donor families. For more information, “like” Team Ohio’s Facebook page or visit Team Ohio’s website.
Many donor family members feel alone and empty at the hospital after they are given the news that their loved one has passed away. Although organ, eye and tissue donation offers a positive light on a tragic situation, families are still forced to face the painful reality of leaving the hospital without their loved one. Life Connection of Ohio tries to ease that pain by offering families a comfort shawl at the time of their loved one’s donation so they don’t have to leave empty handed. Families can wrap themselves in the comfort shawl to feel close to their loved one.
Life Connection of Ohio and Community Tissue Services also display Connected by Giving Donor Quilts at community events. Quilt squares created by donor families are stitched together to pay tribute to those who gave the gift of life.
If you are interested in knitting or crocheting comfort shawls for donor families, or if you’d like to receive information about how to create a quilt square in honor of your loved one, please fill out this form.
